When I sit down to work on a blog I usually pray and sometimes I write about what comes to mind after I pray. So today I thought I would tackle prayer. I recently began a prayer ministry at our church. We meet on Monday mornings for prayer and pray for requests that come to us in many different ways.
Prayer is communication with God and many people have different views on when to pray, how to pray and so on. Prayer is a mystery in some ways about when and how prayers are answered. I will not pretend to have all the answers but I know prayer works. Sometimes my prayers are answered right away and some are answered sometime later or in a different ways that I do not always recognize.
I think prayer has to do a lot with our heart and how real we are with God. I once heard a pastor say one of the best prayers to God is to just say "Lord help!" or "Lord I need you!" I don't think prayers have to be hard or long or poetic they just have to be sincere. Here are a few Bible verses to review about prayer.
Phillippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have it, and it will be yours.
James 1:6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave on the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. such a person is double minded and unstable in all they do.
For a better idea about prayer lets pick these apart. God does not want us to worry and be anxious he wants us to give every situation to him. He wants us to be thankful, present with thanksgiving your request to God. We need to ask and not doubt. Don't pray then negate the prayer with what you say to your friend, spouse etc. Scripture says that a person should not expect to receive anything if they doubt. Even though we still feel like we are not healed that instant or still have some of the same problems, we need to believe and walk in faith and let God work through those situations. Claim it and praise him for it before you can see it or feel it. That's real faith. As I stated before sometimes prayers are answered in a different way than what we anticipate. Here is a very important fact: We must truly believe God is capable.
Believing and praying removes a lot of anxiety from our life. I liken it to a little child with parents. They do not worry about food and a bed or clothes, they just use those things and go on with life playing, going to school and so on. Because they believe and trust their parents they are free to love, live and have fun. When we believe in God the same way we to are free to love, live and enjoy our lives.
When we don't know how to pray, we can just ask God for wisdom. Be sincere, be thankful for what we have now and for what He is doing in our future. Believe and not doubt. Speak little quick prayers to Him in your head all day long. Basically he wants us to just love and communicate with him. Nothing complicated, nothing time consuming, just consistent. Just like you want your children to love and communicate with you. Simple and beautiful that's it!
Lord be with each person that reads my blog. Please touch their lives in special and meaningful ways to let them know how much you love them. Bring people into their lives to encourage and uphold them in the faith. May the peace that only you can give cover their concerns and sorrows as they begin to let go of their pain and trust you more. In Jesus Name, Amen
May God richly bless you and your prayer life,
