What a beautiful time of year! It is a gift that unfolds in an abundance of color that we can see and smell as we walk by the trees full of blossoms and gaze at the smiling flowers as they come forth from their long Winter sleep. Color I can't get enough of it. Color to me is like sugar on our taste buds or great music filtering in our ears. All wonderful experiences that make life enjoyable, but life, even music, would not be as enjoyable if everything was gray and colorless. There is just something about color that is inspiring and healing and delightful at the same time. I guess that is why flowers are given to the sick and the grieving or to a loved one on Valentines Day, birthdays or anniversaries. The color in flowers are so perfect and so varied that they make us smile. My husband likes to bring me flowers. I put them on the counter and enjoy them every time I walk by. I have flower beds and planters outside in the summer. It is a hobby that fills me with great satisfaction and joy.
When I think of color I also think in terms of being colorful: full of contrast or variety; picturesque, vivid. I find myself thinking of people that way. Their personalities are all so different and colorful like a box of crayons. As each color brings something wonderful to our world so do the people that we know and meet.
As I ponder God our creator I am in awe. I think of all the beautiful trees and their flowers and fruit. The plants and flowers, just like in the picture above, with their fluted petals are so perfect and the colors are so brilliant year after year. The beautiful sky and mountains and oceans, how wonderful. Then I think of people and how complex our bodies are and how unique each person becomes not just in appearance but in personality as well. I can go on with animals and birds of so many colors shapes and sizes, how marvelous! Colorful by design. What thought went into each and every detail to sustain life, to enjoy life and to put us in awe of the artist, the creator of all.
All these color by design thoughts made me go back to Genesis for a verse for May. I like the end where it says and God saw that is was good. Can't you just see Him smile. I know when I decorate or plant flowers or do something creative, I like to stand back and look at my work. Then I smile and think, this is good.
Then God said, " Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seeds in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. The Land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that is was good.
Life is difficult and unpleasant at times. I pray that you will take yourself outside and let the beauty in nature begin to quietly unfold the works of God as you allow Him to connect with your spirit though His calm and colorful ways.
