Summer, my favorite time of year. Some people think it's too hot and there are bugs and so forth but for me it's always been a season of fun and beauty. As far back as I can remember I have always had a lot of fun in the summertime. Some of my best memories involve; swimming with friends, riding bikes, going to summer camp and playing softball and volleyball. As an adult I have enjoyed all these things with our children plus camping and vacations at the beach as well as my hobby, gardening. I absolutely love green everywhere and watching the flowers I have planted take off and reward me with beautiful blooms all summer long. I love cookouts and all the fun summer activities we do with family and friends.
The above picture is a view outside my window, I have wisteria growing up the side of our double swings arbor and large trees covered with leaves swaying in the breeze as I look out at the fields that have just been planted. Summer beauty.
There is just something about summer that makes me feel thankful everyday. The warm breezes and sunshine on my face. The sound of birds and the laughter of children running and playing outside. The beautiful colors and smells. I even enjoy the projects around our place that require work because I like to do things alongside my husband. It's rewarding to accomplish something that adds beauty and value to our home.
In the Bible, this verse from Mark 13:28 is repeated in Matthew 24:32 and Luke 21:30 so it is significant.
Mark 13:28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree; As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out you know that summer is near.
I think it means we must pay attention to what's going on around us. If you read the verses before and after it is talking about the returning of Christ. I also feel it is calling us to stop and evaluate our season of life and where God wants us to be. Evaluate our relationship with God and our relationship with other people. We must pay attention to the signs. If Christ came back today would our hearts be ready, would our family and friends be ready or would they be left behind. Pretty heavy stuff going from summer fun to Christ return. I feel it will be just that way. One day we are having fun and the next minute everything will changes and we will not know when this will happen. We are never guaranteed tomorrow anyway so we need to prepare ourselves for eternity.
Be in the moment, be thankful, be involved with the Lord. Ask Him to come into your heart and set you free from all the worldly garbage that makes us a prisoner in the jail of unhappiness and fear. Having Christ in your life is a wonderful way to live and you can be ready for whatever comes next.
I hope you will not wait for a tragedy to call upon the Lord when you could be in His presence everyday and have a more fulfilling and joyful existence now.
For me, every bird chirp, every warm breeze, every beautiful summer view and flower reminds me of our great creator and I am thankful. Psalms 71:8 My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. Getting into the word of God has been a life changer for me that's why I wrote my book. My prayer is that you too will be transformed by the renewing of your mind by getting into the Bible, Romans 12:2
May God Bless you with wonderful summer days full of fun and fellowship.
