I make a pretty good quick sugar free pie, not by whipping up some pudding but by buying those snack pack sugar free containers. It's hard to find decent tasting sugar free pudding and my husband loves chocolate pie and has to watch his sugar intake.
It takes at least 6 cups and 8 for a deeper pie. My husband likes regular pie crust so I either make it or buy a pre-made one and bake it. You can use, a cookie crust or graham cracker crust as well.
I start out by putting pudding from 2 or 3 cups in the bottom of the crust, then I mix some cool whip in with the other cups that I dumped in a bowl. The amount of cool whip is up to you. It makes it taste more like chocolate moose. I then put that on top of the dark chocolate pudding then top the whole thing with cool whip or whipped cream and put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.
If you can eat sugar then use the sugar pudding. Have fun making up your own creations, so simple and inexpensive. Each pack is only a dollar.
Hey he's happy and that makes me happy.
I don't know about you, but it freaks me out to put an easily breakable used light bulb in the trash. I hate the thought of a family member or even the trash people getting cut on a broken bulb.
I always have blue painters tape in the house so one day I decided to wrap tape around the glass part of the bulb so it would keep the glass all together.
Taking safety precautions are always the best thing to do. This way I can rest easy knowing I did the right thing. Peace of mind is high on my priority list!
This blog is all about helpful tips on everything so this month I felt compelled to give you a prayer I wrote for such a time as this in 2017. Hopefully you will use this far more than any other instruction I have ever given for it is far more important.
Oh Lord lift the veil of deception. Cast down every sinful application put upon man in this current time. Lord declare freedom for the captives and rest for the weary. The battle is won by you oh God almighty, maker of heaven and earth. To God be the Glory for the great things He has done.
Lord open pathways of emotional and physical healing. Let your glory come down. May we see the Holy Spirit like tongues of fire and miracles begin. Let there be signs and wonders that no one can dispute. Let the enemy be held back as in chains-defenseless and incapable of moving on the earth as he wills. Let there be no doubt in any human mind that you exist. Almighty God, Yahweh, Creator, Restorer, Finisher of our faith. Let your Glory reign. We praise and worship you Lord.
Lord we pray that you close the mouth of the wicked, gag the vile. Lift high your appointed people, let no harm come to them or their families. Grant them favor among the people of all the nations. Let good overcome evil and let there be reports of good come forth. Give us a voice and ears the will listen to your great word. Give us patients, love and a clean heart. Let us not get wrapped up in the hatred of others. Help us put our trust in you almighty God. Help us not turn to the left or to the right but stay focused on you. Fill us with your gifts for such a time is this. Fill us with the sweet air of your presence to sustain us. Give us strength and ability that we cannot comprehend so that we may step into a new dimension of your spiritual presence. Let the name of God bring us into your Holy state of being where we honor and worship you Oh God almighty, we love and worship you.
Lord let us pray that every time your name is used wrongly that the person using it will be presented with a sense of who you are in that moment. You said in your word in Isaiah 55:10-11 that your word would not return void. Let that also be the word of your great name. May it be followed with life changing power. Bring forth the power Lord. Bring forth your glory. Bring forth signs and wonders. Bring forth miraculous healing. Overcome drug and alcohol abuse with your plan of health and healing. Let those that have profited from our infirmities become poor because of the vibrant health you can give. Let those that harm children and the helpless for profit or sport be bound up and function-less by your almighty hand. Let there be healing for the victims. Teach us how to help and send us forth Lord. May your name be praised above all. May your glorious justice shine forth. May your mercy and love change many. May the perpetrator become the advocate against their crime. Only you Lord, Only you! Sometimes we sigh in a semi conscience state of defeat but then we are reminded , "But God", "But God" all is lost "But God you show up and everything changes."
Almighty everlasting Father. Merciful and just God, our deliverer, our Savior, our hope, our joy and strength.. You are a good Father- and we adore you.
In Jesus name Amen--let it be so.
I love hot drinks in the winter. So this year I came up with this idea of making my own hot drinks from nutritious fresh ingredients. This is a nice change of pace from tea and coffee.
First fill a 6 quart slow cooker (crock-pot type cooker) 3/4 full with water. Put in 2 apples cut up, with the peeling and seeds but not the stem, 1/4 cup of cranberries, 1 inch piece of peeled ginger root cut up and 2 whole cinnamon sticks. Let that cook on high for 2 hours or on low for 4. You can taste it and decide if it needs to simmer a little longer. At that point scoop out the fruit pieces and discard them or use them to make muffins or mash and strain for a sauce. I leave the cinnamon stick in the crock pot. It's fun to experiment with different fruits and spices.
Keep your pot on warm and you can drink from it all day long.
I also keep a mug of this good warm beverage by sitting my mug on a candle warmer. A candle warmer works great to keep hot drinks warm while I'm busy writing or working on something.
Stay warm and hydrated!
There's nothing like a warm fire in the stove or fireplace during the winter months. To make that happen easier, my husband and I make fire starters. We started making them for camping, now we use them in our wood stove as well.
What you will need:
Think ahead - plan to make several--one mess lots of fire starters. We save up the cardboard egg cartons, sawdust and dryer lint for many months then make a lot all at once.
First, put down your heavy table cloth then cover it with layers of newspapers. Lay out your egg cartons on the newspapers. Fill the empty cardboard egg cartons with dryer lint, and sawdust. and bits and pieces of the top of the egg carton -the lid. You can just use pieces of cardboard if you don't have sawdust, but I believe the sawdust helps it burn longer. Fill your stock pot with about 3 " or so of water and bring up the heat slowly. Put your wax or old candles in the coffee can and set it in the stockpot of water that's on the stove.-the wax will melt fairly quickly.
When all the wax is melted, with heat resistant gloves, carefully lift out the coffee can of wax and pour the wax over each egg cup in each carton until all are covered with some wax, they don't need to be completely covered in wax-focus on the middle of each egg cup. Note: Do not try this with children around. You must be very careful and take your time. You can also buy candle making supplies for melting the wax, but this method is very inexpensive.
Now let the newly made fire starters sit for several hours or overnight. After they have cooled they are ready to break apart, light and put under your kindling to start your fire. You can also cut each one( egg cup) in two with a power saw to make them go twice as far.
For a charcoal chimney or a camp fire these are perfect. No need for dangerous lighting chemicals and the potential for bad burns.
Have you ever wanted to give someone a gift but knew you could not spend much money? Wouldn't you like to give a gift that is useful, attractive and still have the ability to convey a message?
A couple of years ago, when I got into scrapbooking, I came up with the idea of making encouraging bookmarks that would fit in a Christmas, Birthday or Get Well Card. Everyone seemed to like them and use them. They really didn't take much time. I would make several at a time and have them on hand ready to send out.
For me, knowing that someone gave me a gift that took time to find or make really meant a lot, so that is what I sat out to do with the bookmarks.
Here are the steps to making the bookmark you see in the picture.
The first thing I did was to determine the size I needed. I then cut out templates out of in-expensive white cardstock , you can find it sold by the copy and printing paper in stores. Here are the sizes I used.
Layer one 2 1/2" x 7 3/4" Second layer 1 7/8" x 7 3/8 " Third layer 1 1/4" x 6 1/2" Fits in a 9x6 Card.
As you see in the picture I have made them in other sizes. The size may be determined by what your words-poems or message. Play around and come up with your own unique bookmark. That's what's fun. Now you have an idea you could use in your Christmas cards if you choose.
Shelf liner is very inexpensive and can be used for many things. Here are a few ways I use it.
1. I use a rectangle piece to tighten canning jar lids without burning my hands. See the picture above.
2. I use it to help me open the lid on a jar. It works like a charm. The rubbery material really helps me grip the lid so it opens easily.
3. I put a long rectangle piece under my step stool legs or small ladder so it will not move on the hardwood floor when I am washing the window over my kitchen sink.
4. A small piece makes a really good coaster for my tea cup.
5. I used sheets of it in a rubber maid container in layers to transport jewelry that I sold for Women at Risk International . The jewelry stayed in place and did not get tangled up with other pieces. The jewelry is made by women who were rescued from human trafficking. The sales help support and care for them. For more information about this organization go to:. http://warinternational.org/
6. It works really well in campers and RV's or any application where items could move easily when traveling.
Just a few applications, I know when you begin to use it you will be able to come up with more ideas.
Enjoy the simple things!
In the summer I grow grape and cherry tomatoes but I get so many of them. In order to preserve them instead of letting them go to waste, I do two things. 1) I put them in my blender and make a sauce. I then can use it, can or freeze it. 2) I cut the tiny tomatoes in half then lay them on my dehydrator to dry for around 24 hour. Take them out when they are crispy. I then put them in a bag and put them in the freezer to insure they don’t get moist and moldy. They are wonderful for snacking or throwing in a pasta sauce or any recipe that calls for sun dried tomatoes. You get a wonderful condensed sweet tomato flavor from them just like the store bought “sun dried” tomatoes. You don’t have to have a garden to grow these wonderful bite size jewels. All you need is some good soil and a planter, water and some plant food, seeds and sunlight. You will be able to grown many tiny tomatoes to eat and preserve.
I like to make smoothies but my bananas go bad so quickly in the summer. What I have been doing is putting them in the refrigerator. You have to get them to a certain point of ripeness that you like or they won’t ripen sweet in the refrigerator. This does give them a few extra days and I don’t end up throwing my money away with the spoilt fruit I can’t use.
I hate to see things go to waste it kind of makes me sick. I learned from my Mother how to can and freeze produce, but I still look up a lot on the internet. It’s not hard, but it does take time. It’s also a fun thing to do with your daughters or a friend. It’s like a cookie making day only with vegetables!
If you can’t do either than by all means give your extra produce to neighbors or a food pantry or kitchen. I do both, I put up some for myself and give some away. It’s a good thing and I thank God for everything He provides.
If you are like me, when you know people are coming over, you cook more than is needed because it's better to have more than not enough. Recently I did just that and I cooked up way to many hamburgers on the grill. When hamburgers sit in the refrigerator or freezer, they become dry as cardboard no matter how you warm them up.
So one day I pulled out my steamer and put water in it and put my frozen cooked hamburger patties in it with the lid on for around 15 minutes.
What came out were perfect juicy flame broiled tasting hamburgers. You can even put cheese slices on them to melt a few seconds before taking them out of the steamer. Very tasty!
Easy as can be. Steamers can be used for more than just vegetables!
A coleus is a beautiful leafy plant that comes in many colors. They add so much to a potted plant or garden area. They are an annual and one of the easiest plants to reproduce.
When I go to a green house, I look for a really tall coleus in the color I would like to use in my garden.
I bring it home and cut off sections then plant the bottom part with the roots in a planter to grow.
As you can see in the pictures, I put the cut off portions in water to grow roots by filling a round clear bowl with water and covering it with foil. After I do that, I poke holes in the foil and slip the cut off stems in the water to sit about 2 weeks on a window sill that has indirect light. In only 2 weeks time the bottom of the stem will grown a very nice set of roots that will take off and grow quickly in your planter full of soil. You can repeat this again anytime your planted coleus starts getting tall enough to cut.
After I plant it, I water it and let it grow. I also fertilize my plants about once a month or use a time release type of plant food. I check the moisture content of the soil in my planters, every other day, by sticking my finger down in the dirt so that I will not over or under water my plants
