To Care or Not to Care

This world has many unwritten dos and don’ts.  Very often they are pretty far from what some of us were taught or what the Bible teaches.  So, do we do what is right or what is easy?

The world tells us to stay out of people’s business. This is partially good advice but sadly when it comes to providing care, physical or spiritual, this world view is lacking compassion and love. We are also told things like; “Don’t teach your kids about God, let them make their own choice.”  I ask, how can a child make a good choice if they are never presented the truth or the choices?  Who will teach them, television, video games, schools or friends, and what will they teach them?

I think there has always been a controversy about whether we should tell people about the saving grace of Jesus or keep our mouth shut.  I know there are some church people that think Christians should only teach by example.  I agree setting a good example is important, but because of these scriptures our instructions to verbalize our faith is very clear.

Romans 10:14 NLT But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him?  And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The ability nor the responsibility for sharing the gospel is not ours alone.  Actually, it will not be successful unless we invite the Holy Spirit to assist us.  One way we can talk to a total stranger or even someone we know; is to ask them this question first: “How can I pray for you?”  As we pray, we are inviting the Holy Spirit in, which can open the door for more conversation.  I would say most of the time we are only planting a seed of faith that our Heavenly Father waters and grows.

Another way to pray and begin to open opportunities is presented in this excellent post by Dutch Sheets of Give Him 15.  You can read it or go to the bottom of his post and click to listen. I suggest you listen first, then print it out to follow. See the link below.  As you know, from time to time I quote other people.  God speaks to many and I would be foolish not share such wonderful quotes, articles and songs.  This article by Dutch is exceptional, I pray you will hit the link to listen to Dutch’s teaching and begin praying for the lost; those whose eternal destiny is in question.

The big questions we need to ask ourselves is: “Do I care where these people go when they die?”  “If so, do I do what is easy and ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit or take the harder path that I am called to take; to pray and talk with people about the Lord?”  Oh, to care or not to care, what will it be? I pray you will choose to care and make a difference in someone’s life, for we are moving into perilous times. Surely, I can’t be the only one that knows this? It’s enough to make me get serious, how about you?

This blog is written to challenge Christ followers, but if you are reading this and do not know the Lord and desire to, then begin by praying something like this: “Lord, I believe you are the son of God that died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day.  Please come into my life and forgive my sins.  I want you to be the Lord of my life.  Show me how to live for you.  In Jesus’ name.

Romans 10:9 NLT If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Prayer

Lord, the times we are living in make us question many things.  We know you are in control Lord.  But we also know this is earth not Heaven and there will be good times and bad.  There is so much joy in knowing we belong to you. Lord, put the desire in our hearts to want many others to come into your kingdom.  Give us the courage to be your disciples and share the gospel to a lost world.  Help us love people as you love them, Lord and help us stand up for what is right and true.  Thank you, Lord for your constant love and help.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

God Bless

Sincerely

Sally
