It’s hard not to notice the physical changes on earth as we go from summer to fall and see the colorful display of leaves right before our eyes. Just as the seasons change on earth, so do the seasons of our lives. We are in a constant state of change from one thing to the next and with change comes new experiences.
I live in Ohio and we get the full effect of the changing seasons and it’s beautiful. Do I like winter as much as I did as a child? Probably not, it’s because I don’t handle the cold as well at this age, so I stay indoors more. It’s no big deal. The great thing about Ohio is how green and beautiful it is. Other states that I have visited, cannot grow flowers and gardens like we can in the summer because it’s too hot and dry. As much as I like flowers and vegetables, that would not work for me. No matter how cold it gets in the winter, I know the beauty of spring, summer and fall are soon to come. I love color and Ohio in all its seasons have some of the most beautiful scenery and photo opportunities.
One thing I have found with age, is that we have more time to connect with God at a deeper level. I come to realize that age has little to do with how productive we can be, but how focused we can become. What we once did in the physical realm is nothing compared to how productive we can be in the spiritual realm. The difference is the seen and unseen. Through prayer, compassion and love, we can make a huge difference. This is not a seasonal (age) thing but a choice.
Did you know there is no retirement in the Lord’s service? As long as we have breath, we can pray and encourage others whether or not we are able to do physical things any longer.
So don’t think of change as something to hate or grieve, think about what good can come from it or how it can be maximized for the glory of God. The winter season on earth or in our lives is full of time for rest and renewal and more time to spend with God and connecting with people. The earth knows the benefits of the changing seasons, why can’t we?
Here are some words from the song, “For the Beauty of the Earth.”
For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, for the love which from our birth, over and around us lies; Lord of all to thee we raise. This our hymn of grateful praise.
Prayer
Lord your grace abounds with love over and around us when we chose to be spiritually born anew into your kingdom. We recognize how the creative brush of your hand displays the beauty of each season on earth and in our lives. How marvelous you are Lord; nothing compares to you. Help us know the value you place on each of our lives and help us realize the benefits of each season. May we make the most of the time you allow us. Just as the leaves are now turning to beautiful colors by your design, may our lives also take on the beauty of your creative and glorious Spirit. Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful earth and its beautiful people. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God Bless,
Sally
