I don’t know how many times in my life I would make plans, then someone would need help or plan something else and it would take precedence over what I wanted to do. Yes, it can be disappointing but when I took into consideration how much I cared for those people, I just learned to “go with the flow.”
Going with the flow and not getting upset and demanding that everything go our way over nonconsequential things, can be freeing. It releases us to be used by God in many cases, but is it always good to go with the flow?
Going with the flow in this world can mean laying our faith and convictions to the side to get along with people who think differently. I agree that it is important to be kind and courteous, but is it ok to engage in and support things or be even be silent about things that go against the Bible or our moral code just to get along?
Matthew 19:24 (NIV) Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
So, this blog is not necessarily about money although it could be. I ask, what makes a person compromise what they once believed? Could it be fear or the threat of losing money or social acceptance? Those verses are about the LOVE of money but the underlying message is there for all other things.
So, going with the flow of the world no matter what, could makes us no different than the rich man that loves money more than God.
The thing in a nut shell is God knows our heart, we can’t hide from God. It’s in the choices we all make, stand with God or stand with the world.
Exodus 23:2 (NLT) You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice.
The following is a powerful quote, author unknown.
“I would rather stand with God and be judged by the world, than stand with the world and be judged by God.”
Tough words for a difficult time in our world. This is a serious blog that I feel God has been laying on my heart to write. As always, I hope it gives you the reader some things to think and pray about.
Prayer
Lord, you have called us to be different than the world, but it’s hard. Sometimes we let fear or the opinions of others move us farther from you. It’s a struggle and we need your help to make it through each day and do the right thing and love you more than anything else. We can’t do it without you Lord, so strengthen us as we spend time with you before we start our day. Give us a boldness but yet a loving heart. Help us show your love and your word to a hurting world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God Bless,
Sally
Thank you Sally, good thoughts and words.
