When you build a house, you want it to withstand all sorts of storms. You want to be able to trust that it will keep you warm and safe. You want to be able to go home at night and relax and not concern yourself with weather or anything else for a time. So, what would a “solid” person be like?
When I think of something solid, I think about it being immovable like pillars that sustain a lot of pressure while holding up a large bridge that supports the weight of cars and trucks every day. How would that look in human form?
I believe a person would have to have some kind of a solid foundation of thought and belief; principles that they will not waver from. Some areas that benefit from a solid person would be:
- How they live/conduct their life.
- How they parent.
- What kind of spouse they are, even what kind of person they are to work with or be as a friend.
- What they believe and how they live out their convictions in public.
How we perceive and act out all those facets of life says a lot about us, whether we are a solid person or not. Solid people are dependable, like the bridge, no matter how much pressure they have to take, they come through for their family members, friends, co-workers and even their brothers and sisters in Christ. Isn’t that what we want? To be able to depend on people? Doesn’t that make life more comfortable and enjoyable? What is God asking of us? In two translations.
1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
I guess this is on my mind now because as parents, Christians and as Americans, we have to know what we believe and stand up before our ship (our country), our family and our freedom to exercise our faith before it goes down like a sinking ship.
When we were children, we played and did a few things we had to do but for the most part we lived a good life and didn’t concern ourselves with serious stuff. I believe in this day and age, it’s time for us to grow up and become solid people who are able to stand up and be steadfast and immovable. When the verse says, the work of the Lord, it covers everything that stands for the good and protection of the family and the most vulnerable. God didn’t just create this and not that! He created everything and asked us to oversee it.
WWJD, What would Jesus do? Jesus stood up to the religious leaders of that time who refused to accept him and told the truth. Jesus turned over the tables in the temple and said this is a house of prayer not a den of thieves. He stood up for the downtrodden and the least of those that other people shunned. Jesus was a solid person, part man and part God. When he ascended to heaven, he left us the Holy Spirit as a part of himself to be in us who believe. So basically, we are physically human and spiritually a child of God if we choose to be.
Ephesians 1:18-21 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparable great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
May we understand our authority in Christ, pray it, and step out and step up for truth and freedom. May we be solid people for such a time as this for every generation of our families to come.
Joshua 1:9 NIV Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Prayer
Lord, make us brave. Fill us with the power of your Holy Spirit and keep us from discouragement and fear. Remind us that we walk by faith and not by sight. We thank you that you ARE with us wherever we go. May that fact be in our hearts and minds with every breath we take here on earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

I really liked “we are physically human and spiritually a child of God if we chose to be.”
