How many of you hate your commute or the time you must spend in your vehicle going places? Seems like a waste of valuable time, doesn’t it? Does it have to be?
Last week I talked about how productive a person could be in just five to ten minutes, this week I want to address travel time.
Here are a few examples of productive things you can do as you travel.
- If you are traveling with another person, take the time to have a meaningful conversation. Some of my best conversations with my family and friends took place in a vehicle. For one, you have a captive audience! Right? LOL! No, really it can be a very meaningful and memorable.
- Take the time to pray. This can be a very powerful time when you are alone with God on the road. I have one miraculous story to share that was told to me. One lady told me that her supervisor was very difficult to work for, so she decided to spend her time driving to work praying for this person. Against all worldly understanding, low and behold her supervisor began to change and became a better person. Never underestimate the power of God to work on your behalf, because you pray wherever you are.
- Listen to Christian music, it will lift you up and often the songs line up with what you need that day. You can have praise and worship in your car. How awesome!
- Listen to some of those Christian teachings you can’t seem to find time for or listen to an Audio Bible.
- Listen to a good audio book. I have a blue tooth speaker I use with my phone. I get Audio books free from the library downloaded to my phone. You can find out more about this at your public library. This is great for those long trips where you may want to chill out and enjoy the ride especially if you do not want to dwell on hard or difficult situations you are going through. This can be very relaxing.
Why do I call these travel time miracles? 1. Well having the time to converse in a meaningful way, can be miraculous as in the one I had with my mother on our last mother daughter shopping trip. You can read about it in my book, A Student of Life, chapter, A Perfect Day, page 54. 2. We know that prayer changes things and some things we actually get to visibly see, like the lady’s boss. 3. When a person listens to Christian music and teaching, they are getting to enjoy the God-given-miracle-talents of others. As they do this, they are being encouraged in their walk of faith and given hope just as God intended. All these and even a wonderful novel are all good gifts from God. They are miracles in themselves that in turn can be the catalyst for other miracles to come to someone through God’s work in you.
Just the fact that our hearts beat like clockwork so well every day for 67 years or more so that we can drive, converse, pray, work etc. is a miracle! I say with God’s help, make a miracle happen while you are driving through prayer, praise and conversation. Be a miracle for someone else and praise God for the miracle that you are.
Psalm 78:7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Psalm 136:4 Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. His faithful love endures forever.
Prayer
Lord, Thank you for opportunities to connect with you wherever I am, whenever I want. Use me Lord to bring a miracle to someone’s life through my prayers, actions and relationships. Help me use my time on this earth with great enthusiasm for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
God Bless,
Sally
Sally thank you for reminding us that even time we think of as useless and mundane can be spent for the Lord! It’s so easy to forget this! Thank you for your gift of clarity! We could all use more of it!!!
Love this one Sally! Somedays I feel closest to God when I pray talk to him in my vehicle.
Very good and timely advice.
